We mitigated by rerouting traffic directly to instances under our control, bypassing the affected Vultr infrastructure. The root cause lies squarely with Vultr, and we&#039;re in contact with them to find out what went wrong. On the bright side, the workaround also resolved a pre-existing IPv6 issue we&#039;d already filed with them; so, thanks for that, we guess!

Mar 2, 18:36:18 GMT+0 - Postmortem - Between approximately 18:20 and 18:32 UTC on 2 March 2026, users experienced repeated disconnections from the real-time gateway, with connections failing to establish sessions. The root cause was an excessively high HTTP concurrency limit (20,000) on the gateway&#039;s internal RPC client, which allowed a backlog of requests to accumulate in the connection pool during a routine API pod restart cycle. A secondary issue, a race condition in the gateway&#039;s circuit breaker, prevented the overload protection from activating, causing the backlog to grow unboundedly until the connection pool was fully saturated and unable to process any requests, including new session handshakes. The issue was resolved by draining active connections, lowering the concurrency limit to a value aligned with the connection pool&#039;s capacity, and allowing clients to reconnect gradually.
